    Exceptional

As requested we had a four poster bed and beautiful views of the river. Quaint bathroom with both shower and bath although the decor was poorly finished. Large room and very comfortable with satellite TV. Bed beautiful made up and lovely clean and laundered sheets. Superb grounds and setting where guests can wander and relax. Well stocked breakfast menu

Despite the positive comments above we would not recommend the evening meal to friends. This applied to one particular chef. On a previous occasion whene we stayed two nights it was noticably better when this chef was not on duty. We will visit again and recommend the golf club for meals!

really helpful staff ,good food, lovely gardens, quality big bed.

    Superb

The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The Hotel and grounds were really lovely and the food very good (the chef even makes his own granola and marmalade which was a welcome treat! Smoked haddock for breakfast was also excellent) There was no problem when we asked to change room on our second night. .

The 'feature' room on on first night was smaller than we had anticipated and the bed not as comfortable as we would have liked. Our 2nd and 3rd nights in room 1 were a totally different experience for which we were very grateful. (Beds are a very individual thing of course!) The bar dining area would be enhanced if the view from the conservatory was improved by a good window-clean.

    Fabulous

Staff responded graciously to complaint from one of our party who was finding the shower in her single room just too tiny by giving her one of the best suites - a lovely outcome.

    Very good

Beautiful grounds and large room. Lovely black and white building.

Bathrooms very out of date (pampas green bath!) and very long wait to order food. Interior in need of updating.

    Fabulous

unfortuneately I had a fall whilst walking down the drive (my dog darted after a squirrel and pulled me over!!) so did not really stay in the hotel much as I was off to hospital.Thr staff were very very helpful and concerned and organised an ambulance etc for me

    Superb

The setting was wonderfull, the staff were so accomodating, nothing too much trouble, food was great,I can possibly say that the breakfast is the best I have had anywhere, help yourself, hot and plenty of it. Will be going back very shortly,a wonderful break.

    Very good

I liked the quirkiness of the hotel - it was not done up all in one style like the chain hotels and was very individual. I liked the public space too.Best of all was the friendliness of the staff - nothing was too much trouble and we liked the chef coming walking round and talking about the food.

    Exceptional

The staff here were really fantastic; friendly, welcoming, highly professional - a total slick outfit. The rooms were nicely decorated, comfortable, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff who accommodated even the most bizarre requests with willingness and a smile. The hotel itself and it's grounds are stunning. We did not sample the restaurant but the breakfast & sandwiches we ordered one lunchtime in the drawing room were great. The breakfast is served in a beautiful Tudor panelled dining room. I look forward to many repeat stays at this beautiful hotel when visiting the area.

I hesitate to find any fault, as this is a great hotel, but, in the interests of giving other visitors a full picture, we did find that the water pressure and shower were not great. Adequate - but not great. The bathroom in our double room was very attractive but a little impractical, without anywhere for us to put washbags or other things around the basin. Also, the hotel seemed a bit over-heated during the day and a bit cold and un-heated at night. But these are tiny gripes in an otherwise fantastic stay.

The staff were very friendly and attentive. The breakfast was delicious. In the evening we had a bar snack which was very nice although a limited choice, and good value.

    Exceptional

our room was four poster bedded feature room with a lovely view and the king sized bed I had requested on booking. The staff were very helpful in helping me get a phone call to a doctor and an urgent prescription faxed to the local Boots chemist. We were only there one night and wished we could have stayed and explored the lovely countryside around, making do with just one river walk.
